Three layers between you and the scroll
Layer 1: apps
An accessibility service notices when a blocked app comes to the front and puts a block screen over it. It runs only when something changes, so battery use stays low.
Layer 2: feeds
The same service recognises Shorts and Reels screens inside otherwise useful apps and steps you back out, so you can still message friends or watch a tutorial.
Layer 3: the web
A local VPN profile swaps your DNS for a filtering one. Ads, trackers, scam and phishing sites and, if you choose, adult domains fail to load in any browser or app. Only DNS lookups are filtered, not your traffic.
Privacy and permissions
Your habits are your business
Focus sessions, goals, reminders, streaks and usage stats are stored on your device. There are no ads and no analytics trackers in the app. An account is only needed if you want to redeem a Pro key, and then only to attach that key to you.
Android asks for some powerful permissions to block apps. Here is exactly what each one is for:
Usage access
Reads which app is open and for how long, to show real screen time and trigger blocking.
Accessibility service
Detects blocked apps and Shorts or Reels screens. It is used only for blocking and nothing is recorded or sent.
Display over other apps
Draws the block screen on top of a distracting app.

FAQ
Questions, answered straight
Is Aegis Focus free?
Yes. Focus sessions, app blocking (3 apps), Strict Mode up to 3 hours, the Shorts and Reels blocker, the ad blocker, goals, reminders and the Clean Streak are free. Pro lifts the limits and adds advanced tools.
Can I get out of Strict Mode early?
No. Strict Mode has no emergency exit by design. While it runs, session rules and blocked apps are locked and the app cannot be uninstalled. Choose a duration you are comfortable committing to.
Does it upload my usage or habits?
No. Your sessions, goals, reminders, usage stats and Clean Streak are stored on your phone. The only server involved is for Pro keys, which checks that a key is valid and unused.
Why does it need Accessibility and VPN permissions?
Accessibility lets the app notice blocked apps and Shorts screens. The VPN permission is optional and only creates a local profile that filters DNS for the ad blocker. See the permission list in the Privacy section above.
Does the 18+ block stop everything?
It blocks a very large set of adult domains in every browser and app, but DNS filtering cannot catch everything, such as content inside some apps or a browser using its own secure DNS. Treat it as a strong first wall and combine it with Strict Mode.
Will it drain my battery?
The blocker reacts to events and sleeps otherwise. The optional ad blocker keeps a small local VPN profile running, which is light but not zero.
How do I get Pro, and can a key be shared?
Tap Get your key in the app and message the owner on WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram. Each key is single-use: once someone redeems it, nobody else can. Redeeming while you already have Pro adds the new time on top.
Is it on the Play Store? Is the APK safe?
It is distributed as an APK for now. The source code is public on GitHub and every APK is built automatically from it by GitHub Actions, so you can inspect what you install.
Which phones are supported?
Any Android phone or tablet on Android 8.0 or newer. Some brands aggressively close background apps, so if reminders or blocking stop, set Aegis Focus to unrestricted battery use.
